I am not talking about some video game here. You may know how to play the guitar but by now you should be aware that being good with the guitar is a whole new level. If you try to browse online, you hardly find any websites that actually tells you how to be better with the guitar. They usually tell you the things you already know. Others just tell you the obvious ones. I will list below some of the weird but effective tips on how to be better with the guitar. The things I will mention might or might not be of help to you. But trust do me, these tips will take you a step further towards being a guitar God.
Easy Steps on Being Better with the Guitar
1. Hang out with other artists - Ever heard of the lines "tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are" or "greatness breeds greatness"? Follow these age-old sayings and you will be much better with your guitar. Playing with people who are already good will do wonders with your skills. A week of playing with them is much better than a month of solo practice. You can learn tips, some secrets or even recommendations from others.
2. Practice at performance level -Some people have the tendency to be sloppy when practicing. If you have a chance to watch the best basketball player at practice, you will see that he sweats as much and does as much as in a championship game. People who are good at what they do take every opportunity to practice their best. When you practice, make sure you give your 100% concentration and you will see changes right away.
3. Go classical -For some reason, most of the guitar greats had their feet wet in the classical music pool. You might think that punk rock is nowhere near classical so it sounds rather useless to study classical. It worked for Eddie Van Halen, Malmsteen, and Randy Rhoads. It wouldn't hurt to study classical techniques every now and then to make sure your own technique is in check.
4. Play with your heart -Music is expression. Remember that your guitar is an extension of yourself. All of the greats are legendary not just because of their skills. They are never forgotten because they can move people emotionally through the guitar. Through their guitars, they communicate with their audience. If by any chance you want to express something, use your guitar to convey that message to your listeners.
5. Believe -You might not be aware of the fact that half of everything we do is in our heads. Some people fail at music, or any other endeavor there is, because they fail to recognize themselves. You may practice every day or follow all the tips you see but these things are no guarantee that you will get there. Remember to believe in yourself. Call yourself brilliant or good - trust me, it will make all the difference between failing and becoming a guitar hero.
